Ketamine treatment
Ketamine is not FDA-approved specifically for anxiety disorders. Evidence is smaller and more preliminary than the depression literature, and depression findings should not be presented as proof of anxiety treatment effectiveness. Established psychological and medication treatments remain part of a clinician-led assessment.

Colorado Springs, located in El Paso County along the eastern edge of the Southern Rocky Mountains, serves as a significant medical hub for the Pikes Peak region. Residents exploring mental health care in the Front Range corridor have access to several local clinics offering different forms of ketamine therapy. Understanding the available clinical settings is an important step when exploring these treatments for severe depression or other mood disorders, and a comprehensive evaluation is always necessary.
Within Colorado Springs, patients can access treatments ranging from off-label infusions to FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray. For example, Colorado Psychiatry Solutions and its second Colorado Springs location describe offering IV ketamine. For those looking for Spravato treatment, local options include Rivendell Health, Victory Clinic TMS and SPRAVATO Treatment Center, South Colorado Springs, and Master Mind Clinic. Patients willing to explore the broader Front Range might also consider reviewing clinics located in nearby communities like Lone Tree or Boulder.
Finding the appropriate clinic often involves contacting the provider directly to confirm the exact formulations they administer, as treatment protocols can vary significantly between offices. Because this therapy generally requires frequent visits, choosing a location in Colorado Springs that is easily accessible year-round, despite occasional winter weather events, is highly recommended. Patients are encouraged to thoroughly review clinic websites and coordinate with their primary care physicians to facilitate a safe treatment plan.

Intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), and compounded sublingual ketamine are frequently used off-label in psychiatric care. Because these formulations are not FDA-approved for treating depression or anxiety, they are typically not covered by major medical insurance plans. Patients generally must pay out-of-pocket for these services. Before beginning a protocol, request a comprehensive written estimate that details the consultation fees, the cost of the medication, and the clinical monitoring fees. The FDA warns patients and health care providers about potential risks associated with compounded ketamine products, so understanding these factors is vital for informed consent.
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray indicated for specific cases of treatment-resistant depression and depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Unlike off-label ketamine, Spravato is more likely to be covered by commercial health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. However, coverage is not guaranteed and usually requires a rigorous prior authorization process to verify that other medication trials have been unsuccessful. When calculating your total expenses, also account for the travel and lodging costs associated with repeated visits, as the initial treatment phase demands frequent appointments.
Initiating ketamine therapy begins with a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to determine medical suitability. If approved, the treatment phase involves repeated visits to the clinic, especially during the initial weeks. For patients receiving Spravato, federal regulations mandate administration in a certified healthcare setting. Patients must undergo at least two hours of on-site clinical observation following the dose to monitor for potential side effects. After the observation period, patients are strictly prohibited from driving or operating heavy machinery until the next day, following a restful sleep. A responsible adult must be available to provide transportation home from the Colorado Springs clinic.
In Colorado, fluctuating mountain weather and higher elevations can impact travel logistics, making reliable transportation crucial for your appointment schedule. While telehealth services can facilitate preliminary assessments, they do not establish an avenue for home treatment. Spravato is never dispensed for home use. Although some providers may prescribe compounded oral or sublingual ketamine for off-label home use, these forms are not FDA-approved for psychiatric care, and the FDA has issued warnings regarding the risks of home administration without on-site clinical monitoring. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line at https://bha.colorado.gov/988 by calling or texting 988, or dial 911 immediately.
Insurance acceptance depends entirely on the specific medication and your individual health plan. Off-label IV or IM ketamine is usually self-pay. FDA-approved Spravato is often covered by major insurers, but it requires prior authorization. Always contact the Colorado Springs clinic and your insurance provider to verify your specific benefits.
Yes, reliable transportation is a strict requirement for all in-clinic ketamine treatments. Because the medication can cause dissociation, sedation, and delayed reaction times, you must have a trusted adult drive you home. Patients are prohibited from driving until the next morning after a restful sleep.
Spravato is FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression and major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation in adults. Other forms of ketamine, like IV infusions, are used off-label by El Paso County providers for various mental health conditions, though they lack FDA approval for these specific psychiatric uses.
Appointment durations vary based on the method of administration. An IV infusion may take about one to two hours from check-in to discharge. Spravato appointments are longer, requiring a federally mandated minimum of two hours of clinical observation following the nasal spray administration.
Many Colorado Springs mental health providers offer telehealth options for the initial consultation and psychiatric evaluation. This can be convenient for patients traveling from surrounding areas. However, the actual administration of the medication and the required clinical monitoring must take place in person at the clinic.
Yes, there are notable risks. While some clinicians prescribe compounded ketamine off-label for home use, it is not FDA-approved for psychiatric care. The FDA explicitly warns against unsupervised home use due to potential adverse effects, including dangerous blood pressure spikes and dissociation, which require professional on-site monitoring.
Costs, coverage & aftercare
IV, IM and compounded ketamine for psychiatric conditions are off-label; many programs are self-pay. Ask about assessment, medication, administration, monitoring, therapy and maintenance charges separately. We do not assume a statewide price.
Spravato is FDA-approved esketamine, not the same as ketamine infusions. Coverage is not guaranteed. Check eligibility, prior authorization, network status, drug and visit charges, deductibles and copays with your insurer and clinic.
Spravato requires a certified healthcare setting and monitoring for at least two hours. Arrange transport home; do not drive until the next day after restful sleep. For other ketamine treatments, follow your clinician's instructions. Follow-up and maintenance depend on response and tolerability.
Ask who manages your medications, how your usual clinician will receive updates, and whom to contact between visits. Neither a shortage designation nor local depression statistics show that ketamine is appropriate or effective for you. Consult a licensed physician.
Use these questions when you call or book a consultation with any Colorado Springs provider.
Ask whether a physician, psychiatrist or anesthesiologist oversees each session and who you can reach afterward.
A good clinic reviews your history, medications, blood pressure and past treatments before recommending ketamine.
Look for continuous vital-sign monitoring and a calm, private recovery space.
IV infusions, Spravato® nasal spray, IM or sublingual options suit different goals and budgets.
Ask how the clinic coordinates with your therapist or offers integration support between sessions.
Request a written estimate for the first series and any maintenance sessions before you start.
